Our commitment

Reform UK Birmingham wants this website to be usable by as many people as possible, whatever their abilities and however they access the web. As a political party we are not within the scope of the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018, which apply to public sector bodies; we nevertheless choose to work towards the standard those regulations adopt — the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA — because we believe access to political information is part of democratic participation.

What we have done

  • The site uses semantic HTML with a logical heading structure, so screen readers can navigate it.
  • Interactive elements — menus, buttons, forms and the councillor contact dialog — are reachable and operable by keyboard, and dialogs can be dismissed with the Escape key.
  • Images carry text alternatives, and photographs of councillors are described by name.
  • The layout is responsive and content reflows at high zoom levels without loss of function.
  • A light and dark colour scheme is available from the header on every page.
  • Form fields are labelled, and error messages are expressed in text rather than colour alone.

Known limitations

We audit the site regularly and are honest about where it currently falls short:

  • The banner at the top of the home page rotates through images automatically and does not yet offer a pause control; users can, however, select any slide directly.
  • Some decorative text placed over photographs may not meet the enhanced contrast ratios at every size.
  • Content hosted by third parties that we link to — including our Facebook page and the national party’s joining and donation pages — is outside our control and may not meet the same standards.

We are working to address the items within our control and will update this statement as we do.
