Safer Streets & Communities

A clean, safe neighbourhood is the most basic thing a council owes its residents. In Birmingham, even that has broken down.

The problem

Since 11 March 2025, an all-out bin strike has left rubbish piling up across the city — bringing rats, fly-tipping and a genuine public-health risk — while the dispute alone had cost taxpayers £33.4 million by January 2026. At the same time, everyday upkeep, from street cleaning to lighting, has been squeezed to balance the books. Residents are paying more and getting less.

What Reform councillors will fight for

  • Bins emptied reliably — a sensible, affordable settlement that clears the streets and ends the chaos.
  • Well-lit streets and faster action on fly-tipping, graffiti and antisocial behaviour.
  • Clean, welcoming town and district centres that residents and businesses can be proud of.
  • Environmental maintenance treated as a core service, not an optional extra.
